The Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Pida) has launched a comprehensive 'contact campaign' aimed at improving relations and enhancing co-operation between farmers and the officials of irrigation and other relevant public departments.
This programme besides enhancing co-operation and improving working relationship between various government agencies and farmers will also help the farming community make better and proper utilisation of irrigation water as well as benefit from the expertise of the government departments.
These views were expressed by General Manager Pida Shafqat Masood while addressing a workshop on 'joint canal system', held by the Pida area unit II here, on Sunday.
A large number of farmers from across the province and officials of the Irrigation Department attended the workshop.
Shafqat Masood further said that apart from looking after and repair of canals and water channels, Pida had also ensured participation of farmers in the process of settling water disputes.
"The department is also paying special attention on training of farmers," he said, adding, "the participation by officials of the Irrigation Department and farmers has proved very helpful in decision making process at various levels."
