The exhibition entitled 'Tana Bana', the woven soul of Pakistan, opened at the Japan Folk Arts Museum (Nihon Mingeikan, Tokyo) on April 5, 2004, according to a message received from the Embassy of Pakistan, Tokyo.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Kenji Manabe, who is a member of the Japanese House of Councillors as well as the vice-president of the Japan-Pakistan Parliamentarians' Friendship League, along with Tariq Ikram, chairman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Government of Pakistan.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a speech by Nihon Mingeikan President Munemichi Yanagi, followed by remarks of welcome by Pakistan's Ambassador Kamran Niaz and the EPB chairman. The Ministry of Culture was represented by Additional Secretary Mohammad Akram. The exhibits drew rich praise from the guests.
The exhibition will run till May 23, 2004. On April 10, there will be a 'Tabla and Sitar' recital by Pakistani artistes at the Mingeikan.
The exhibition, organised by Ms Noor Jehan Bilgrami, has the active support of the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo as well as financial and institutional backing from the Pakistani Ministry of Culture and EPB.-PR
