Syed Usman Ali, Chairman Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMAP), has urged the ministry of communication to persuade the APL to withdraw the recent increase in freight charges for Canada and South America.
In a communication to the ministry , the chairman said that the recent increase in freight charges would hurt the textile exports of the country, which are now-a-days facing not only a bearish market but also a tough world competition.
He noted that only Pakistan, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Columbia have been singled out for the hike in freight while other countries of the world will be enjoying the old freight rates.
"Moreover, the shipping companies are still charging Pakistan Port Surcharge (PPS) which the government has already banned.
He also urged the FPCCI president to take up the matter with APL and ministry of communication to get the matter resolved.
