Setting up of meat authority proposed

Workshop on "Red Meat Situation Analysis" strongly proposed to government for the establishment of "Provincial Meat Development Authority" to improve the quality and identify the future development strategies to meet local demand besides export.
Announcing the recommendations of the workshop chalked-out by the various working groups headed by the leading experts, Dean faculty of Animal Production and Technology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the newsmen here on Sunday.
He said "we have proposed to the government that prices of red meat should be based on grading and quality of carcass and a Provincial Meat Development Authority be established to monitor the implementation of decisions
He said special focus has been laid on the improvement of existing poor conditions of slaughter houses in accordance with the health department criteria.
He said demand for red meat is increasing gradually in domestic and international markets which badly needs immediate action plan to shape future strategies.
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDES: Selection of suitable strain for beef production in buffaloes.
Selection and promotion of sheep and goats for mutton production. Feeding regimes for intensive feeding should be investigated.
Proper supplementation under subsistence production should be searched. Mutton production intensive feeding system be developed.
Use of non-conventional feed resources and extension activities for its promotion etc.
