Punjab government is planning to provide easy and soft loans to the fish farmers in order to boost the fisheries industry in the province and eradicate the unemployment, said Jam Muhammad Hashim, Provincial Minister for Fisheries here on Monday.
He was addressing the officials of the fisheries department during the inauguration of the research laboratory at fisheries hatchery at Rawal Town.
Government is making efforts for a successful breeding of the Sangarri and Sohul fish in order to provide people a good substitute of meat and chicken and provide them a high quality fish for their diet.
Minister said that fish sale centers were set up in all big cities of the province, where people could get a high quality fish at reasonable rates. "All possible efforts are being made to maintain the quality of the fish and adopt all possible hygienic measures", he added.
He said that the provincial government is also planning to establish a fish museum at Lahore where every species of fish will be brought for the interest of the people.
Jam Hashim directed the officials of the fisheries department to adopt all latest methods of fish farming and impart these skills to fish farmers. "Once we equip the fish farmers with latest techniques, better results and fish will be available to people", he said.
Minister was informed that after establishment of research laboratory, people would not have to go Lahore for a soil test regarding the fish farming. This lab will provide them better facility of soil and water testing without any cost.
He was also informed that the species of Mori, Gulfam, Rahu, Silver Corp and Gross Corp are being reared here in the hatchery.
These fish are living together and are not harming each other, which is main reason of their quick breeding.
