The process of conversion of rickshaws into CNG would be initiated soon.
This was stated by the Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Environment and Alternate Energy, Faisal Malik.
He said that steps would also be taken to check the noise pollution being created by the vehicles fitted with pressure horns and tape recorders etc.
The adviser pointed out that the process has been speeded up for the deployment of the environment magistrates as well as the setting up of the environment courts.
This would help strictly enforce the environment laws and award of fines and sentences to the violators.
Faisal Malik emphasised the fitness of the vehicles and installation of silencers in the rickshaws is essential.
He pointed out that it has been impressed upon the district government that for the construction projects, the acquisition of the environment impact assessment certificate is essential.
In addition to this, the rules and directives of the Environment Protection Agency as enforced from time to time, should also implemented.
Faisal Malik pointed out that no practical steps were undertaken during the past governments towards the improvement in environment.
He said: "Along with the relevant laws, the present government is also paying attention towards the implementation aspect."
