The Vigilance Committee of Transport Department, CDGK has seized/ confiscated an Allied Services' bus and suspended its route permit for fifteen days against the violation of laid down rule.
According to details, a vigilance committee having joint representation of Transport Department, CDGK and District Regional Transport Authority has recently been constituted to monitor and review the performances of large sized buses operating on different routes in the city under the Urban Transport Scheme (UTS).
The committee is entrusted with the main responsibility to pay surprise raids to check illegal high charging of fares, violations of route permits and other irregularities.
The committee has been authorised to take immediate on spot actions against violation of rules.
In this connection, the EDO, Transport, CDGK, Dr Tahir Soomro also directed the vigilance committee to pay daily surprise visits to make the services of these buses exemplary and ensure a pleasant change in the existing transport culture of the city.
He said that the basic objective for launching UTS was to facilitate the public with an affordable and comfortable transport facility.
He further urged on the UTS drivers and conductors that contrary to the traditional drivers and conductors of old buses and mini-buses they should display best manners and strictly follow the traffic rules and regulations.
Soomro stated that CDGK was determined to improve the public transport system of Karachi through a well-planned strategy, which included the replacement of existing buses with the new large-sized, CNG buses.
He hoped that implementation on UTS and Mass Transit projects would bring revolutionary changes in the traffic culture of the city.
