China will transfer modern technology and technical know-how to Pakistan for the manufacturing of high quality digital telephone sets to meet the growing local demand.
Leader of a two-member visiting Chinese trade delegation Steven, during a visit to Pakistan Communications Industries (PCI) a subsidiary of Telecom Foundation of PTCL told APP here on Wednesday.
He said that China would provide high-tech training, latest equipment and testing facilities to their counterparts in Pakistan, apart from the transfer of technology.
John, a member of the same delegation said that with the transfer of technology, supply of modern equipment and spare parts at affordable rate, Pakistan did not need to import this equipment which, he added, was much more expensive than Chinese products.
Senior Production Manager PCI, Engineer Mohammad Shahzad Hassan briefing the delegation said that they were manufacturing 162,000 new digital telephone sets to be supplied to PTCL before the end of current fiscal year.
He said a first consignment of 25,000 sets was ready for delivery. Hassan said PCI had already exported another consignment of high-tech telephone sets to Norway.
"We have successfully developed steno telephone sets, digital cordless telephone sets and mini digital exchanges with callers line identification (CLI), which will not only be marketed locally soon but exported as well," he concluded.
