Telenor Mobile Communications of Norway Chief Executive Arve Johansen has said that Pakistan's environment is encouraging for investors.
He stated this during a meeting with Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Thursday.
Telenor Mobile has won a mobile phone licence on Wednesday.
Arve Johansen said that his company, encouraged by Pakistan's transparent investment policy and strong macroeconomic performance, had decided to participate in the bidding for grant of a licence to set up a cellular company here.
He appreciated transparent and professional handling of the bidding process and hoped that foreign investors would continue to receive encouragement from the government to invest even more in the country.
He said that the decision to invest here was based on favourable analysis of Pakistan's economic performance by his company's financial experts and advisers.
Telenor Mobile operating in 35 countries globally intends to gradually increase their investment in Pakistan to tap full potential of the cellular market.
He said that his company would offer an attractive package and quality services to increase its market share in Pakistan in the shortest possible time.
Shaukat said Pakistan being a country of 148 million population is an attractive market for cellular business.
He said that it is encouraging to note that Telenor, a company of international repute, have been granted licence through open bidding.
The government would continue to encourage investors to create healthy competition and improve tele-density in Pakistan.
He also said that the financial institutions had enough liquidity and could offer local financing at very competitive rates. Telenor should itself explore listing on Pakistani stock exchanges.
He also said that Pakistan's GDP is expected to grow at the rate of 6 percent, interest rates are low, currency is stable and stock markets are buoyant.
Shaukat informed the delegation that Pakistan offered competitive edge as cost of doing business here was one of the lowest in the region and its location gives Pakistan a competitive edge.
Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan and senior officials of the Finance Ministry attended the meeting.
