Terming the treatment being meted out to jailed Javed Hashmi as worst ever to any political leader, PML-N leaders on Thursday urged foreign diplomats to take notice of political victimisation at the hands of the present rulers.
In their meeting with foreign diplomats from European Union (EU) and US, PML-N leaders apprised them that registration of sedition case against Hashmi is part of the negative tactics being employed by Musharraf regime to suppress the opposition.
The diplomats, who were given briefing included Minister Counselor Nigerian High Commission, Ali Ocheni, First Secretary Japan Embassy, Masamichi ABE, Second Secretary Russian Embassy, Danila Ganich, First Secretary Netherlands Embassy, Herri Putker, First Secretary Canadian High Commission, Baljit Johansen, Premier Secretary French Embassy, Laurent Oriol and Brown Horward of Australian High Commission.
The PML-N leaders present at the occasion included Chief Coordinator Chaudhary Ahsan Iqbal, MNA and daughter of the Javed Hashmi, Maimoona Hashmi and Central Vice President of PML-N Mushahidullah Khan.
They challenged the government's motives as suspicious, saying that the case was framed many days after the press conference in which the alleged remarks were made by Hashmi.
The leaders added that instead of being detained by the law enforcement agencies Hashmi was "kidnapped" by intelligence agencies' personnel.
Despite ruling of speaker his (Hashmi) family was not allowed to meet him in jail, the PML-N leaders said. He was subjected to torture in detention.
At the time of registration of case against him, jail-trial instead of open-trial was conducted, they said, adding that the jail authorities did not offer him a better class.
They apprised the diplomats that torture was inflicted on Hashmi to stop opposition leaders raise their voice against government.
