Kite-flying with metallic wires hits power supply

20 Apr, 2004

The kite-flying especially using metallic wires and chemical string is disturbing the life of the people in the present hot days on account of power supply interruption due to the undesired kite string coming into contact with the live electricity lines.
A spokesman for Wapda said here on Monday that the people continue to undergo the misery of interruption in power supply due to the kite-flying particularly on Sundays, adding this practice also causes damage to the costly power installations such as transformers and breakers at the grid station, etc due to repeated instances of tripping coming on them.
He said Wapda, therefore, again appeals to the public in general, parents of the kite-fliers and the people fond of the pastime to refrain from indulging in flying kite using the metallic wires and chemical string, adding this care would save them and the people in their neighbourhood from experiencing interruption in power supply.
The field staff of the Wapda electricity operation department, however, remain alert to restore power supply in the minimum possible time after patrolling the lines and rectifying the fault by removing the metallic wire or chemical string fallen on the live lines, he added.
