Again uniform

21 Apr, 2004

PPP Patriots have once again stirred the issue of President's uniform which seemed to have been settled once for all, for reasons best known to them.
If they are so keen on his retaining the tunic, all they have to do is to ask someone in their ranks to 'order' it so.
The Federal Minister of Defence is constitutionally superior to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and authorised to grant him extension in his tenure as the COAS.
As such, Rao Skindar Iqbal - Minister of Defence - should be 'pleased' to grant extension to General Pervez Musharraf for one, two or three years as he wishes and General Pervez will have to wear the uniform during that period.
Alternately, as I said sometime back, he should be made an F M. As Field Marshals never retire, he will have to be in uniform for the rest of his life. As simple as that.
