The overall supply position of wheat flour has improved in all the parts of Sindh during the past one week though reports keep coming in of bad quality of wheat flour being sold in Jati, Diplo, Mirpursakhro, Sujjawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas and some towns of Hyderabad district.
Reports reaching here from Thatta said that the new Sindh wheat crop has begun arriving in substantial quantity and is being bought in large quantities by the private sector "Atta Chakkis".
However, complaints of quality of flour from different villages in Sujjawal and Jati keep coming in.
Overall improvement in the supply of wheat flour has been witnessed in Dadu district.
Reports from Naushero Feroz and Sukkur also speak of substantial supplies of wheat flour in the market.
District officials said arrival of new Sindh wheat crop in the market has helped in improving wheat flour supply in most areas of the province.
The flour, which was stored for black market has also come into the market because the hoarders no longer see it profitable.
However, reports from Sukkur and Jacobabad said that large-scale purchases of wheat were being made by the traders having links in Quetta, Chaman and Zahidan to send wheat to Afghanistan and Iran where it is being sold at much higher prices than in Pakistan.
Officials in Quetta have confirmed that there were reports of attempts to smuggle wheat to Afghanistan, but this has been checked effectively, while reports from the NWFP said that the efforts to stop smuggling of wheat from the border into Afghanistan were still not very effective.
