Pakistan holds a pivotal position in the world markets for its textile and garment made-ups that are exported to a large number of countries.
In addition to its contribution of fulfilling a major share of global need, the garment and textile industry contributes more than 65% of the total export earnings, accounts for 46% of total manufacturing and employs 38% of the manufacturing labour force as a major component of the national economy.
The beginning of the quota free trade regime from year 2005 will mark a new challenge for the country's textile industry where adherence to the internationally accepted quality standards will have to be put into practice.
This can only be achieved through acquisition of latest in technology to improve upon effective and speedy production.
The Government on its part is encouraging the local and foreign companies to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of the textile and allied products.
The implementation of Textile Vision 2005, envisions various reforms that have been initiated with the aim of enabling our textile and garment sector to meet the challenges and opportunities of a quota free future, especially since that the Government of Pakistan is targeting US $10 Billion of exports of textiles and garments by the year 2005.
Realising this need, it is imperative that there should be an efficient and interactive platform to create a bond between the buyers and sellers of garment & textile machinery on an international scale.
Duly keeping this in mind, Pegasus Consultancy, the leading conferences and exhibition organisers in Pakistan, jointly with CEMS of Singapore, took a bold step of organising the first International Garment and Textile Machinery Exhibition in 2002.
Setting a record, this exhibition gained massive popularity on an international scale within two years and is now recognised as the preferred showcase where the buyers can not only interact with the leaders in machinery manufacturing, but can also look at their machinery in operation.
IGATEX PAKISTAN 2004: Supported by the overwhelming success of the two preceding events of the IGATEX sequel, IGATEX Pakistan 2004 has now become the largest exhibition of its kind in the region as well as the largest commercial event in the history of Pakistan.
IGATEX Pakistan 2004 features well more than 400 participating countries, mainly dominated by the international participants coming from 29 countries, including China, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, Korea, Turkey, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Designed to be an ideal one-stop sourcing center, IGATEX targets all the important local and international buyers from Pakistan, South Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
This is the ideal conduit to launch the latest cutting edge equipment and technologies know-how to create an impression, establish new contacts, network and exchange ideas.
EXTENSIVE SUPPORT BY GOVERNMENT & PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANISATIONS: Adding to the support by the Government of Pakistan to the show, Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mr Liaquat Ali Jatoi is inaugurating IGATEX Pakistan 2004.
