24 Apr, 2004

The government has set up a network of quality testing accredited laboratories to improve quality of agriculture commodities to meet international standard for enhancing country's exports.
According to official sources heavy investment has been made for bringing about improvement in quality of agriculture products.
Pakistan over the years was importing about two million tonnes of wheat every year but now it has become a wheat exporting country.
As a result of concerted efforts in the field of agriculture production, Pakistan has become an exporter of wheat and about 1.2 million tonnes wheat was exported last year.
This was an area of our main focus and now attention will be given for enhancing production and exports of the other commodities, the source added.
Besides establishing wheat-testing laboratories for supporting wheat export establishment of pesticide residue testing laboratories are in the offing.
