Punjab Environment Minister Makhdoom Ishfaq Ahmed has stressed the need for vigorously implementing Environment Protection Act, 1997, in the province.
He stated this in a meeting of the Task Force formed in relation to evaluating standard of ground-water in Punjab on Sunday.
The minister said that in a number of areas where water was being pumped out from 70-80 feet by donkey pump, the quality of water was saline and detrimental to health.
"Where water was abundantly provided by Wasa, it should not be pumped out by donkey pumps", he pointed. Makhdoom Ishfaq Ahmed asked district governments to ensure check of water available in their areas from proper laboratories on the occasion.
