Punjab Information Technology Minister, Abdul Aleem Khan has said that software development was a high growth industry and formed a major segment of the vast IT markets.
He said this during his visit to a software house 'Global ESP System'.
"A developed software industry with a focus on exports would mean better employment opportunities, reduced brain drain, foreign exchange earnings, improvement in per-capita income and high living standards leading to a better quality of life.
This industry will not only meet Pakistan's own needs, but also serve as a training ground for capturing exports markets", he said.
The government had chalked out a plan for the private sector to take over a major part of the government's software development needs and to remove barriers for local software development needs, he added.
The minister said that the federal government was pursuing composite information technology policy for the promotion of IT in the country.
