Former Sindh governor Moinuddin Haider on Monday expressed the need for improving the standard of universities to invent better future of the country.
Addressing as "Speaker at the Campus" here at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), he said the universities' budget should also be increased to let them perform their duties effectively.
He observed if the team leader of an organisation is dedicated, only then he can make the university perform better.
Appreciating the performance of the AIOU, he said about 500,000 students are being provided education and its total budget is about Rs 1 billion.
Commenting on the parliamentary system in the country, Moin said a minister should be able to perform his duties professionally to accelerate socio-economic development in the country, suggesting that Pakistan should adopt good features of other countries' legislatures while making its own legislature.
Talking on the world's scenario, Moinuddin Haider observed that after the World War II, United Nations came into being to play a role in creating unity among the nations, but it has failed in its mission.
AIOU Vice chancellor Dr Syed Altaf Hussain said in the civilised countries, universities not only generate education, but also have a responsibility to excel in the research field, adding high-ranking officers of such countries use the universities' forum for expressing their views.
