14 May, 2004

The visiting World Bank team has assured release of 90 million dollar to the Frontier government as fresh tranche for executing second phase of Structural Adjustment Credit (SAC-II) Plan in the province following successful negotiations with MMA's Senior Minister, Sirajul Haq.
The Senior Minister with high powered WB mission at Islamabad also deliberated upon financial requirements and plight of the province in this respect besides argumenting about crystal clear policy of MMA government on respecting and honouring global agreements in befitting manner.
He was arrived from 3-day official visit of Turkey and attended international educational conference at Istanbul to highlight view point of MMA on bringing reformations in education sector.
Sirajul Haq also made them clear that continuation of the fiscal aid would go long way in promoting the cause of strengthening ties among world communities, and raising credibility and popularity of international monetary organisations.
Similarly it also depicted desire of Frontierites to march on road to progress and prosperity shoulder by shoulder with other nations and hence, such assistance must not be affected anyway, he reiterated.
The WB team after this successful session with Senior Minister NWFP not only assured early release of the loan, but also making drastic increase in such aid to fulfil all future requirements of the province.
Sirajul Haq later also called on Federal Finance Minister, Shaukat Aziz at his office in Islamabad to discuss with him, and apprise him of demands and desires of the people and NWFP govt on two point agenda of ensuing NFC award and hydel net profit share. He made it clear that Frontierites rightly expected flexibility and not intransigence on part of centre to resolve both these issues amicably.
Especially, keeping immense resource constraints of this backward and intentionally ignored province in a bid to remove the sense of deprivations prevalent there since independence and they were equally benefited of the fruits of development as else where in the country, he added.
Shaukat Aziz assured sympathetic consideration hinting that Prime Minister might announce some bold steps sooner or later in this respect.
