Official work came to a standstill on Thursday in the country when 2.2 million employees of grade one to 16 of federal, provincial, district governments went on strike to press the authorities for acceptance of their demands of revision of pay scale, house rent, medical allowance and recreational allowance.
Millions of people returned disappointed due to non-availability of staff in the offices.
However, offices remained opened and concerned officers stayed in their offices and they sent reply of urgent letters, advices and circulars. This strike was observed at the call of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) on Thursday.
More than 2000 employees organised a rally from Irrigation department to Multan Press Club following a protest meeting in Irrigation department.
The rally was led by Central President of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) Haji Fazal-i Maabood and Nusrat Ali Toor.
They vowed to continue their struggle till the achievement of their objective.
Spokesman of APCAa said that we have hoisted the black flags atop of the government offices first day of their protest in April, and on Thursday we are observing strike to press the government for acceptance of their demands of revising their pay scales, enhancing the fringe benefits like house rent, medical, uniform conveyance allowances.
Spokesman said that pay scales of government employees were not revised during the last two decades while the prices of essential and daily use items, utility bills had increased three times, and prices of petroleum products have also gone beyond their reach.
