Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said the government will provide greater opportunities of training to gynaecologists and obstetricians, who form a vital element of the healthcare system, especially in rural areas.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a 10-day integrated refresher course for gynaecologists and obstetricians at the Sheikh Zaid Hospital here on Monday.
Professor Dr Mohammad Saeed, Professor Dr Tahir Shafi and Dr Mohammad Ikram and others also spoke on the occasion, according to a press release.
The minister said the health department would continue its co-operation with public sector hospitals in holding workshops, seminars and refresher courses for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to help update their knowledge and develop their professional skills.
Training programmes and opportunities would be provided for onward transmission to nurses and paramedics based in rural areas so that modern and standardised healthcare facilities could be provided to people in far-flung areas of the province.
He lauded the standard of cleanliness and healthcare service provided in the institution, and observed that these services were better than those provided in some hospitals in the public sector.
Highlighting the objectives of the course, Professor Dr Mohammad Saeed, head of the Gynecology Department, said it had been introduced to enable the participants to integrate the latest knowledge and experience in a broad-based clinical practice area.
The course would also provide an opportunity to exchange views and experience by participants, which would greatly benefit them in their profession, and enable them to provide better health care to the people, he observed.
