LCCI IT Standing Committee Co-Convener and Raffles Branded System Director (Operations) Ibrahim Qureshi has extolled the efforts of Federal Information Technology Minister Awais Leghari to focus on the development of IT sector in the country.
He said, in a statement here on Monday, that Awais Leghari has approved five projects worth Rs 208 million to strengthen IT industry by improving quality and standard in a review meeting held recently, which is an encouraging initiative.
"In this age of information technology when everything is being computerised everywhere, the development in the local IT market is very much required," he added.
The step of setting up a national IT development and promotion unit will help the ministry in carrying out in-depth analysis of specific areas and preparing necessary recommendations, he observed.
Qureshi also appreciated the efforts of Punjab Information Technology Secretary Saeed Ahmed Alvi, saying he is moving in the right direction of computerising all government departments. Such steps will encourage local IT companies for more investment and thus give much-needed boost to the IT industry of the country, he added.
About the local systems, he said Pakistani local branded systems are not less in quality as compared to foreign brands, but for lack of the government support in past, the local market has been affected.
"We can compete any foreign brand, as we are OEM brand, and prepare branded systems according to international standards," he claimed.
