US MIDDAY: sugar near highs on late speculative buying

CSCE raw sugar futures settled near the session peak Tuesday due to late speculative buying, with follow-through interest tipped to push the market higher this week, dealers said.
CSCE July sugar climbed 0.14 cent to settle at 6.64 cents a lb, one tick below the session high of 6.65 cents. The day's low was at 6.49 cents.
October rose 0.08 to 6.88 cents. Except for one contract, the rest were flat to 0.04 cent firmer.
Final estimated volume reached 24,614 lots against the previous tally of 21,036 lots. Call volume stood at 6,166 lots while puts reached 2,942 lots. Open interest in the No. 11 sugar market fell 400 lots to 262,143 lots as of May 17.
