Mumbai police arrested Bollywood director Kaizad Gustad Wednesday on accusations of negligence causing the death of his British assistant, Nadia Khan, who was struck by a train while shooting a movie.
A Mumbai local court ordered Gustad, regarded as one of Bollywood's rising young directors, to be held in jail for eight days while police investigated the case.
Gustad and another assistant, Ashish Udeshi, were being held on accusations of "making a false complaint to the police, negligence causing death and not taking proper safety measures," police official Ramdas Mathre said.
Khan, 27, who graduated in film and media studies from North London University, was hit by a train at a Mumbai railway station last week while filming "Mumbai Central," a movie about urban commuters.
Khan had travelled to Mumbai to get experience in film-making and was working as an assistant director on the set.
