CSCE arabica coffee futures finished mixed Friday in activity featuring small speculators as market players kept a wary eye on winter weather conditions in top producer Brazil, analysts said.
July arabica eased 0.10 cent to settle at 83 cents a lb, ranging from 82.60 to 84.10 cents. The range was within Thursday's 82 cents to 85 cents band.
September also fell 0.10 cent to 85.20 cents. Except for one contract, the rest gained 0.10 cent to 0.55 cent. "It's been really choppy all day long," a senior commodity trading house analyst said.
Small speculators were content to move futures in a range and several thousand lots of rollover business was done in a fairly subdued session, floor sources said. Final estimated volume reached 17,837 lots, from the prior count of 20,196 lots.
Call volume hit 4,188 lots while puts stood at 4,587 lots. Open interest in the arabica coffee market increased 1,337 lots to 116,648 lots as of June 3.
