Sindh sugarcane and cotton crops badly hit by water shortage

Three cash crops in Sindh have been affected severely by water shortage, which include paddy of Irri-6, sugarcane and cotton.
According to rough estimates, there will be 50 percent fall in the production of these crops this year.
A day earlier, the upstream measurement of water at Sukkur barrage was 70,000 cusecs and downstream it was recorded at 10,000 cusecs. The overall shortage of water in Sindh is reported to be over 40 percent.
Farmers in Sindh are looking forward to the conference convened by President Pervez Musharraf on June 10. It is expected that some decision about distribution water between the provinces would be taken at this conference.
