Opposition to raise Gilgit affair in National Assembly

07 Jun, 2004

The combined opposition in the National Assembly is all set to raise the situation in Gilgit during the session on Monday.
In this connection, Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and other opposition groups would file an adjournment motion with the National Assembly Secretariat before the proceedings.
ARD parliamentary group secretary Izhar Amrovhi told Business Recorder here on Sunday that Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian Pervaiz Ashraf, Khawaja Asif from Pakistan Muslim League and MMA's Hafiz Hussain Ahmed had signed the motion.
The opposition, he said, would press the government to initiate a discussion on the prevailing situation in Gilgit and air proposals for resolution of the crisis.
He said that ARD has no formal working relationship with the MMA. He said that ARD would like to co-operate with other parliamentary parties on issues of national importance.
