US Stocks: Thursday's unofficial close

11 Jun, 2004

US stocks rose Thursday, as investors set aside worries about budding inflation and a looming interest hike and embraced a positive forecast from Fedex Corp, which bolstered anticipation of a strong earnings season.
The jump in import prices added to fears that the Federal Reserve, which is expected to raise interest rates at a meeting June 30, will have to act more aggressively than expected.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 34.35 points, or 0.33 percent, to 10,402.79, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 3.36 points, or 0.30 percent, to 1,134.69, and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.42 points, or 0.22 percent, at 1,995.03.
