Rs 46 billion subsidy for Wapda and KESC

The government had provided over Rs 130 billion in subsidies to Wapda and KESC during the last three years to offset any price rise to the consumer.
Finance Minister in his Budget speech announced that during the next year another hefty sum of Rs 46 billion has been allocated as subsidy to the two power generating companies to cope with their financial difficulties, lest the consumers have to pay higher tariff.
It is difficult to imagine the burden people would have felt if all the cost increases were to be passed to them.
