Algeria has bought 300,000 tonnes of milling wheat from optional origins for shipment from August to October, European traders said on Monday.
The state-run OAIC paid $160 per tonne C&F for the wheat from origins including the United States, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Brazil and Argentina, they added.
"French and German wheat are best placed to win a lot of it," a trader said. Euronext milling wheat futures were up between 0.25 and 0.75 euro a tonne by 1430 GMT, with November gaining 0.75 euro at 116.75 euros. Algeria launched a tender at the start of the month for 50,000 tonnes of optional milling wheat for shipment in August.
"The fact that volumes are higher than expected shows that they have important needs despite the big crop expected (in Algeria)," another trader said.
