The imposition of capital value tax (CVT) on purchases of shares brought violent protests in Karachi Stock Exchange on Monday where protesters demanded its immediate withdrawal.
About 250 people, mostly retailers, gathered at the KSE parking area and chanted slogans against KSE administration.
Initially, they were demanding of the KSE management to suspend trading as a mark of protest, but when they failed in their bid they came out of the building.
The gathering turned violent when a TV channel started shooting of the protest. The crowed first tried to enter the Trading Hall then they broke the wooden gate and glass door of the hall.
They also pelted stones at KSE building and damaged some windowpanes.
However, the management rejected the demand to stop trading. It was not suspended for any moment.
"The protest continued for more than an hour and finally the situation came under control," said a KSE official.
