Punjab plans to set up industries in backward areas

Provincial Minister for Industries and Investment Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has said that the government is making all out efforts for eliminating backwardness from the neglected and far-off areas and brining them at par with the developed parts of the province.
Addressing a public meeting held in connection with inauguration of Sui gas to Bheri village and its adjoining areas on Monday, he added that for this purpose huge development funds were being mobilised.
The minister further said that the government was actively considering to establish agro-based and other industries in backward and remote areas of the province.
"The step is being taken for bringing down the unemployment graph through the establishment of small industries in these areas," he added.
Addressing the meeting provincial Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman said that the government had already initiated several uplift projects pertaining to welfare of the people and 'the results of these efforts are visible'.
The main focus of the government, he said, was to change the life style of the people in rural areas. He said that the government was spending a huge amount on the provision of basic amenities, like Sui gas, health, education and telephone etc, in backward areas.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the government was mobilising all available resources on the face lifting of backward areas of the country. The MNA said that she was spending huge funds for the social welfare of the people and development of her constituency evenly.
She lauded the hectic efforts of Sui Northern Gas company for the accomplishment of the project in record time of eight month as a result of which the people of Bheri village would be able to use Sui gas facility by the end of the current month.
Dr Firdous Awan said that the government had given its attention to the welfare of womenfolk in the country adding that the government was considering to establish centres for imparting training in different fields enabling them to earn their livelihood in a respectable way.
The managing director Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Abdul Rashid Lone, Sialkot District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed and Tehsil Nazim Sialkot Muhammad Akmal Cheema also addressed the meeting.
Later, the provincial Minister for Industries inaugurated the Sui gas project.
