KESC finalises rain emergency plan

The city co-ordination committee of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) has finalised rain emergency programme.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation city co-ordination committee decided that the rain emergency programme would be activated as soon as heavy downpour started and that the general public would be informed about the precautionary measures to be taken during rains.
According to a Karachi Electric Supply Corporation spokesman, the precautionary steps decided to be taken and promoted during rains include avoid tying of cattle with electric poles or the support wires or panel, not to spread wet cloths on steel wire to save from leakage current.
The committee further advised the public that if people found broken wire or current leaking from a pole, they should immediately inform nearest complaint centre or at phone no: 118; consumers should get the wiring of their premises checked and use 3-pin plugs for electric appliances; third pin should be connected with local earth; do not touch household appliances unless their plugs had been removed; while ironing or using washing machines, dry cloth or carpet piece, wooden plank must be placed under feet; while walking on roads avoid touching electric poles and other installations.
The meeting was also told that 25 PMTs had been energised in areas of Tughlaque Road (Lyari), Gujrat Colony (Baldia), Popular Avenue, Khayaban-e-Bukhari (DHA), Bahadur Yar Jang Road (Soldier Bazaar), Site, Shahnawaz Bhutto Road (Garden), Korangi, Malir, Manzoor Colony, PECHS, Ibrahim Hyderi, Landhi, Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad, 31-D, P&T colony.
KESC chief engineers Shabbir Solangi, Mohammad Shabbir, Anis Qureshi, deputy chief engineer Amir Bux Memon, zonal manager A.H. Parchani and executive engineer Mustajab also attended the meeting.
