London coffee ends lower

17 Jun, 2004

Liffe coffee futures closed lower on Wednesday on speculative profit taking and origin selling, dealers said, but many participants held back to see if New York extended Tuesday's losses.
July settled down $24 at $798 a tonne in volume of 3,555 lots, having moved between an $823 open and a low of $797.
Second month September finished $15 lower at $786 in slightly heavier volume of 3,926 lots, having moved between $801 at the open and $784. Total volume was 11,017 lots.
"The overall sentiment in London was, is New York going to have one more day of getting hammered?' I think people just kept their powder dry and waited to see what would happen," a dealer said.
