An important meeting of the chief ministers of all the provinces will be held here in Islamabad in the first week of July to discuss and evolve consensus on the issue of construction of new dams so that the construction on these projects could be started without delay.
Parliamentary Committee on Water and Power Chairman Senator Nisar Ahmed Memon, while talking to newsmen here at the Parliament gave the details of the meeting and said the main objective of the meeting is to seek suggestions and proposals of the provinces on the construction of new dams.
Nisar Memon said he talked to all the chief ministers on Friday on telephone and they have agreed to meet in the first week of July.
The Parliamentary Committee had already convened various meetings of irrigation ministers and secretaries from the four provinces on the issue of water resources, construction of new dams and distribution of available water among the provinces.
Nisar Memon said that the committee would complete its report covering all possible areas of water issues.
The Parliamentary Committee led by Nisar Memon also visited provincial capitals to consult provincial governments to seek their proposals and opinion before finalising its recommendations.
He said initial work and feasibility of some new dams have been completed and hoped that in consultation with all the provinces, the construction of new dams would be started very soon.
