Fata MNAs demand reversal of CED on ghee industry

19 Jun, 2004

Through a resolution, MNAs from Fata have demanded reversal of excise duty on ghee industries in the area.
The MNAs held a meeting here on Friday to express solidarity with ghee industrialists of Fata. Noorul Haq chaired the meeting. Those who attended the meeting were Akbar Chitrali, Noorul Haq Qadri, Abdul Malik Wazir, Abdul Bais, Mohammad Sadiq, Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq, Fazal E Subhan, Asadullah, Abdul Malik, Khalilur Rehman, Dr Jamal, Dr Naseem Afridi and Mirajuddin.
The MNAs strongly condemned the government decision and termed it as anti-welfare for the people of Fata. They said that excise duty would shun away investment from Fata and give rise to poverty in the area.
The MNAs said they wanted President and Prime Minister to intervene to get the decision reversed. They said they feared revolt from the people of Fata in case the government implemented the decision.
A press release issued by the MNAs after the meeting said that the people of Fata were seriously concerned over government decision of imposing 15 percent duty on ghee industries of Fata. It said that the government should reverse its decision and announce special incentive package for Fata so that more investment comes into the area and help reduce poverty.
