19 Jun, 2004

Workers of various social and non-government organisations have demanded of the government to ensure availability of clean drinking water to the citizens of Pakistan, especially for the dwellers of Hyderabad, as it is the basic right of the people.
While talking to newsmen at Lahore Press Club, a number of social workers said that government authorities failed to provide clean water to the citizens of Hyderabad which is an example of sheer negligence on part of the officials concerned. They also demanded strict action against the responsible departments.
Earlier to express solidarity with the people of the Hyderabad, a number of people held a protest demonstration out side the Lahore Press Club.
They raised slogans against the government for its failure in providing clean water to citizens of Hyderabad.
They were carrying placards inscribed with the slogans such as 'Clean Water-Basic Right of Citizens, and No to Poisonous Water.'
The protest demonstration, which was arranged by Joint Action Committee of Peoples Right, was attended by workers of Pakistan Labour Federation, Lok Rehs, Shirkat Gah, Commission for Peace and Human Development and other NGOs.
