'World bodies keen to extend fiscal co-operation to Punjab'

After scintillating success of the Punjab government in myriad developmental projects during the current fiscal year in education, health and other sectors, many international institutions have shown keen interest in extending fiscal co-operation to the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said this while addressing the Punjab Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, during which approval was granted for the presentation of the Punjab Budget 2004-05 in the provincial Assembly.
He further said the Punjab government had the honour of presenting Rs 180 billion record budget.
He observed that a sizeable amount had been earmarked in the budget for improvement of means of communication in the rural areas and revamping of sewerage system in cities, besides implementing province-wide water related projects.
According to him, the government was in constant touch with the federal government for provision of additional fiscal resources, which would be utilised for improvement of downtrodden areas and ameliorating the lot of poor masses.
He appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Ministers and Secretaries in the preparation of the budget.
