Coastguards in the United Arab Emirates rescued nine Iranians after their cargo ship sunk in bad weather off the coast of the Gulf state, official agency WAM said on Saturday.
"Initial information suggests there was a technical problem on the ship which caused it to sink in bad weather conditions," WAM said, adding the crew of the ship issued a call for help to UAE authorities in the emirate of Sharjah on Friday night.
"The rescue operation lasted until 8:30 this morning (0430 GMT) after all nine crew members had been recovered," it said.
The incident took place in high winds ten nautical miles off the coast of Sharjah. WAM gave no more details about the ship.
