Pakistan Machine Made Carpet Manufacturers Association (PMMCMA) has demanded of the government and Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to exempt the raw material used by carpet industry from the import duty.
In an emergency meeting of manufacturers of machine made carpets, which was held here, with Chaudhry Azhar Hussain, acting president of the Association, in the chair also stressed for revising import duty to the previous level of 25 percent.
Giving details of the meeting, a spokesman of the association on Saturday said that carpet industry was already in crisis due to expensive energy and increase in the prices of raw material, therefore, the government should take stock of this situation and take punitive measures to save it from collapse.
He said this industry is generating a huge amount of revenue and earning foreign exchange for the country. Moreover, he added, this industry has created thousands of jobs for their countrymen.
