Three persons were killed while over 50 received injuries when heavy rain, accompanied by windstorm, lashed the city and its adjoining areas during Saturday night.
An aged woman Fateh Bibi, resident of Sabri Colony, received serious injuries when the wall of her house collapsed. She was removed to DHQ hospital here where she expired.
Another person, Abdul Kareem, died on the spot when a heavy branch of a tree fell on him while he was going to his home at Akbar road here.
Anwar Ali, resident of Gogera, died on the spot when his bike slipped due to heavy rain at Faisalabad road.
The injured include: Abdur Rehman, Shahid, Nazir Ahmed, Jaffar Ali, Mujahid, Imran, Sardaran Bibi, Shehnaz Bibi, Ayesha, Zubair, Sakina Bibi, Hafiz Arshad Muhammad, Haji Rashid, Bashir Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed, Akbar Ali, Liaquat Ali, Abdul Samad and Aziz Ahmed.
The injured were rushed to DHQ hospital here. However, three of them were referred to Lahore for treatment due to their serious condition.
The supply of electricity remained suspended for many hours in the city and nearby villages when rain started along with windstorm nearing a speed of 102 miles per hour. Several roadside trees also got uprooted and rooftops of kutcha houses were blown up. Walls of many houses caved in during the severe storm. Several electricity poles also collapsed and live power wires fell on the ground at many places, which paralysed life in the city.
The heavy downpour inundated low-lying areas of the city while traffic on Faisalabad-Okara road was suspended for many hours largely due to the uprooted trees blocking the way.
Power supply was restored in the city after six-hour hectic efforts of the Lesco. However, many villages were still without electricity till the filing of this report.
