A policeman was killed and an Afghan UN worker wounded when gunmen attacked a UN electoral vehicle in southern Afghanistan on Monday, hours after a UN electoral office was attacked with rockets.
The attacks in the southern province of Kandahar and in Logar province, just south of the capital Kabul, were the latest targeting preparations for September elections, which the Taleban and allied Islamic militants have vowed to disrupt.
The policeman was killed and the election worker wounded when attackers on two motorcycles opened fire with AK-47 assault rifles on their car in Kandahar's Arghandab district, UN spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva said.
