All Pakistan Cottage Industries and Small Traders Welfare Association and Convenor LCCI Standing Committee for Cottage Industry, Ghulam Sarwar Malik has urged the government to devise a workable and effective strategy to make the country's cottage industry capable of facing the post-WTO challenges.
In a statement Malik proposed that the government should establish a cottage industrial area and shift cottage industry, presently situated within the city, to those areas and that specific estate should also be given special incentives for five years.
It would not only enable them to enhance productivity but would also contribute in increasing exports and making their industry compatible after implementation of WTO, he observed.
He also expressed gratitude to the Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi and Finance Minister, Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak for accepting all the proposals of trader community.
He said that reduction in stamp duty and exempting houses up to five-marla from property tax were appreciable decisions. He hailed the decision of allocating 19 percent for education in the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
