Winding up of Karachi operation: Swiss Air plan irks fruit exporters

30 Jun, 2004

Fruit and vegetable exporters have expressed concerned over reports that the Swiss Air is closing its Karachi operation from October 28.
Mateen Siddiqui, chairman, Fruit and Vegetable Exporters and Processors Association, in a statement, said on Tuesday the airline operates four flights a week from Karachi and its decision to wind up flights would seriously hamper exports to Scandinavian countries.
He urged the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to eliminate reasons, which has forced the airline to close its operation and provide liberal incentives to lure existing lines to continue their operation, and attract new ones.
Mateen said the Swiss Air was the only airline, which provided a link to Europe and Scandinavian countries, and its closure would be a great loss to trade and travelling to Europe especially Scandinavian countries.
