France keen to strengthen trade ties with Pakistan

30 Jun, 2004

The new Consul General of France, Jean-Yves Berthault, has said he is looking forward to further strengthening trade, commerce and socio-economic relations with Pakistan despite scaring incidents of disorder in Karachi and elsewhere.
Talking to Business Recorder at a reception, hosted by him at his Bath Island residence to meet a select group of journalists on Monday, said that disorder in a society was largely due to unemployment and poverty, adding the solution to these issues is time consuming but not difficult.
Jean-Yves Berthault is in Pakistan since 1997, and has sufficient knowledge of the system of the working of different organisations in the public as well as the private sector. This is his first posting as a consul general of France in Karachi.
He has been looking after work in Afghanistan on behalf of the French government for three years. During these three years, he lived in Pakistan. There are only a few consulates, which organise socio-cultural activities with regularity, and the French Consulate is one of them.
