President General Pervez Musharraf said on Wednesday that durable peace and stability in South Asia can yield enormous economic benefits for the one fifth of humanity inhabiting the region.
He told a delegation of Saarc Ministers of Communication at the Aiwan-e-Sadr that establishment of peace through resolution of lingering conflicts would help achieve collective well-being for all South Asian nations.
The long-cherished socio-economic development of this region's people hinges greatly on fair resolution of outstanding issues between Pakistan and India.
"We hope that the peace process and the confidence building measures between Pakistan and India will be result-oriented and bring an opportunity for sustained progress of the South Asian people."
The President expressed the hope that Saarc Ministers' deliberations at the two-day conference would be useful in advancing the region in the field and wished the delegates a pleasant stay in the capital.
Federal minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari was also present on the occasion.
