State Bank stops issuing Rs 5 note

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and all its offices of the Banking Services Corporation have discontinued issuance of Rs 5 banknote from July 1, 2004.
The Rs 5 banknote will, however, remain in circulation, and continue to be the Legal Tender up to June 30, 2005.
The commercial banks will be issuing the re-issue-able Rs 5 banknote till January 31, 2005.
However, all SBP Banking Services Corporation offices and commercial banks branches will continue to accept Rs5 banknote from the members of the general public without any restriction, whatsoever, in exchange of Rs 5 coins till June 30, 2005.
"The members of the general public have been advised to get Rs 5 notes exchanged with Rs 5 coins from all the SBP Banking Services Corporation offices and commercial banks branches operating in the country."
"It can be done till June 30, 2005 as these notes will cease to be the Legal Tender from July 1, 2005", said a release of the State Bank.
