Locomotive assembled at Risalpur

The second locomotive, imported from China, has been assembled by the Risalpur Locomotive Factory, and added to the fleet of Railways, said a spokesman for of the Pakistan Railways (PR) here on Saturday.
It may be recalled the PR has signed an agreement with China to buy 69 locomotives out of which 15 were imported in completely built unit, while rest had to be assembled in Pakistan. First of these 54 locomotives, was added to the fleet of Pakistan Railways on June 11, this year.
Railway Minister Ghaus Bukhsh Mehr performed rolling out, and this locomotive was working satisfactorily, the spokesman said, and added that Railway Secretary/Chairman Maj. Malik Asif Hayyat(Retd) performed rolling out ceremony of second locomotive.
He said the Locomotive Factory, Risalpur, had the capacity to prepare as many as 25 diesel engines per annum on single shift basis, adding the factory has also resulted in economic betterment of the area, as it generated job opportunities for people from NWFP area.
