Lawyers observe strike against Gujrat DPO

The lawyers community all over the province on Saturday boycotted the courts, on the call given by Punjab Bar Council (PBC), to register their protest against the attitude of District Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat.
The Punjab Bar Council has given this call over the request of President Gujrat Bar Association.
The DPO Gujrat, following a dispute got registered criminal cases against the president and members of Gujrat bar association. The bar members agitated against the DPO and demanded his suspension and transfer from Gujrat.
On Saturday, lawyers boycotted the courts and also held protest meetings to press the government to take action against DPO.
Most of the bar members remained in the bar rooms and discussed about the issue.
The representatives of the bars, Ahmed Awais, Tanvir Randhawa, Mirza Hanif Baig, Kazim Khan, Hamid Khan and others while talking to newsmen asked the government to immediately transfer DPO Gujrat.
They were of the view that such an attitude of the government could not refrain the bar members from waging struggle against the wrong acts of the government.
They were of the view that the government could not divide the bar members and they will continue their struggle for the supremacy of law and independence of the judiciary.
