05 Jul, 2004

Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has asked the administration to ensure that mosques' loudspeakers should only be used for calling "Azaan" and citation of "Khutba-e-Juma."
Taking notice of public complaints Dr Arbab has directed the Additional Chief Secretary Home Department to ensure that mosques of all the schools of thought should follow these instructions.
He said that this decision has been taken to avoid creation of any misunderstanding among various schools of thought as well as promote brotherhood and congenial atmosphere in the province.
He said that loudspeakers were reportedly being used for spreading specific religious views which might hurt the sentiments of followers of other schools of thought.
Dr Arbab Rahim also issued directives for prohibiting use of loudspeakers for playing indecent songs at audio and video shops all over Sindh.
"Pakistan is an Islamic State where such attitude cannot be allowed. Our youth must refrain from such activities and it is our duty to take steps to save our youth from these indecencies", he added.
